Prednidale has extensive effects in the body which are of great benefit where used appropriately. Care needs to be taken to ensure that the condition being treated justifies steroid medication, to avoid unwanted side effects. In higher doses, Prednidale can be used to treat autoimmune problems and some forms of neoplasm. Patients/and or carers should be warned that potentially severe psychiatric adverse reactions may occur with systemic steroids (see section 4.8). Symptoms typically emerge within a few days or weeks of starting the treatment.

They are very good for short-term use, say a few days, but ideally a young dog would not be put on them for a long time. I presume your vet has good reason to do this, but it would be worth checking to see if there is something else which could be done. I do not think this dissolves, or can be given effectively in a drink.

Too rapid a reduction of corticosteroid dosage following prolonged treatment can lead to acute adrenal insufficiency, hypotension and death. A 'withdrawal syndrome' may also occur including fever, myalgia, arthralgia, rhinitis, conjunctivitis, painful itchy skin nodules and loss of weight. Blood pressure and renal function (s-creatinine) should therefore be routinely checked. When renal crisis is suspected, blood pressure should be carefully controlled.

This includes those needed for a foreign holiday. Some vaccines should not be given to patients taking prednisolone. This is because prednisolone can affect the way some vaccines work.

Appropriate anti-infective therapy may be required. Corticosteroids, including Prednisolone, have a wide range of effects. Polydipsia, polyuria and polyphagia may develop, particularly during the early stages of therapy. In the longer term, iatrogenic Cushing's disease may develop. If your prednisolone tablets are labelled as "enteric coated" or "gastro resistant", you can take these with or without food but make sure to swallow them whole. Do not take indigestion medicines 2 hours before or after taking enteric coated or gastro resistant tablets.

If your dog has an "auto-immune" disease, then 25mg might be appropriate. I suggest you ask your vet about this and say that the side effects are making things difficult for you. Corticosteroids are not recommended for use in pregnant animals.
